Kevin Knox of Stormville honored by ECWC

ONEONTA, NY (01/04/2017)– The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference has announced that Kevin Knox from SUNY Oneonta have been selected as the Rookie of the Week. Knox was selected based on his performance in last week’s Citrus Invitational in which the Red Dragons finished fourth overall as a team.

True freshmen Knox from Stormville, NY was seeded 7th in a very deep 133 lbs. weight class which included four Nationally ranked wrestlers. Knox would go 5-1 battling his way back to third place including a 9-2 decision over Weinmann.

In the first round, Knox pinned David Wilson of Division II UNC-Pembroke. In the quarterfinals, he lost a hard-fought battle against Bennyhoff of Augsburg 10-8 after leading for most of the bout before being overtaken in the final minute of the match.

In the wrestle backs, Knox pinned teammate Dean Raymond before recording a major decision against Reid Johnson UW-La Crossse. In the consolation semifinal bout, he would record his win against Weinmann before defeating returning national qualifier, Nathan Shank of Cornell 11-7 in the final.

Knox is currently 18-6 overall with five pins.
