Kent Man Charged With Possession of Stolen Property

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of Ernest G. Morrissey, 37, of 412 Pudding Street in the Town of Kent.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation by Kent Police and the Sheriff’s Office after a report to Kent Police of a larceny of a credit card from a motor vehicle. During the investigation by Kent Police it was determined Mr. Morrissey possessed the credit card while in the Town of Carmel. Subsequently, members of the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal of Investigation (BCI) responded to assist. On December 16, 2016, Mr. Morrissey was arrested by members of BCI and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a felony. Mr. Morrissey was released in his own recognizance pending a January 9, 2017 appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.

If found guilty of the felony charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
