trek

Judith Ellen (Zanger) Segal, 81, born in Brooklyn in 1935, died suddenly on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

She was a middle-school science teacher in the Pawling, then Arlington school districts, before retiring.  Devoted to education, she was always happy to share her knowledge of the local geology or to take a telescope out to go stargazing.

She was a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Iowa.

Daughter of Aaron and Celia Zanger, she was the last of their four children.

She married Murray N. (Dick) Segal in 1965; they moved to Pawling, and had one child, Richard.

She was a life-long science fiction fan, becoming involved in Star Trek fandom in the mid ‘70’s, and becoming the editor and publisher on the Star Trek Welcommitte’s directory of organizations and publications.

She was also an animal fancier, formerly breeding and showing championship Belgian Sheepdogs, always having a house full of dogs, cats, fish, and birds.

Always a caring person, she drove for the Pawling Resource Center, and her house was a source of refuge for many in need of rest, shelter, or food.

She is survived by her son, 7 nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many, many devoted friends.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc, Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Monday, November 21st 11 AM – 1 PM, with a memorial service at 1 PM.  Burial private.
