Fayetteville, NY Man Arrested for Unlawful Surveillance and Endangering the Welfare

New Baltimore, NY – On November 13, 2016, at approximately 3:15 p.m., State Police responded to the New Baltimore Service Area for a report of a disturbance.  The investigation revealed that, John D. Scofield II, 38, of Fayetteville, NY, was allegedly recording a juvenile male subject while he was in the men’s restroom.  Scofield was found in possession of a Go-Pro Hero 4 recording device within a paper cup that he had held over the adjacent bathroom stall where the juvenile was located.  Scofield was confronted by the juvenile’s father and became combative.  He was subsequently restrained by the father and another civilian until police arrived.  Scofield was subsequently charged with:

  • Unlawful Surveillance in the 2nd Degree; a Class E Felony
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class A Misdemeanor

Scofield was arraigned before the Town of New Baltimore Court and was remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
