Poughkeepsie woman charged with endangering the welfare of a child

Red Hook, New York – On November 2, 2016, the New York State Police and New York State Justice Center for the protection of vulnerable persons concluded an investigation into an allegation of abuse of a child. The month long investigation concluded with the arrest of Margaret Namulanga, age 33, of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Misdemeanor.

During the course of her employment, Namulanga was tasked with the care of a 12-year-old child with special needs.  While supervising the juvenile, he acted out and Namulanga struck the child in the face.  The incident occurred on September 25, 2016 and was immediately reported to the Justice Center by co-workers who witnessed the incident.

The administration immediately placed the defendant on administrative leave as a safety precaution pending the outcome of a thorough joint investigation.

Namulanga was arrested on November 2, 2016 and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Red Hook Court on November 17, 2016 at 4 p.m.
