Wingdale woman sustains serious injuries following Town of Washington school bus collision

PRESS RELEASE

Washington, New York – On November 2, 2016 at approximately 8:50 a.m., New York State Police from the Dover Plains barracks responded to a one-car collision involving a 15 passenger school bus that occurred on Route 343 between Hammond Hill Road and Chestnut Ridge Road.The bus, operated by a 60-year-old Wingdale woman, was traveling eastbound on Route 343.  An investigation indicates that the bus exited the right shoulder of the roadway, struck a telephone pole, a rock wall, and a tree before it came to rest.  The driver, who was extricated from the bus, was airlifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries.  The aid was transported by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the collision.

State Route 343 was closed for approximately 3 hours as the New York State Police collision Reconstruction Unit conducted a crash investigation.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.

Also responding to the crash site were the Millbrook Fire Department, the Dover Fire Department, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
