Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Brewster man on a drug possession charge.

On October 29, 2016 at approximately 3:10 a.m., deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) were on patrol on North Main Street in the Village of Brewster when they observed a male subject who they knew to be the suspect in an ongoing narcotics sales investigation by other members of the NEU. Upon detaining the subject, they found him to be in possession of a quantity of powdered cocaine. In addition, a criminal history check of the individual indicated that the man was the subject of an active Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation warrant. Vinicio Quezada, 37, of Bridge Lane, Brewster was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Justice Court on behalf of the Village of Brewster and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000.00 bail and the ICE detainer. The charges pertaining to the narcotics sales stemmed from an investigation of cocaine sales that began in the summer of 2015. The charges were lodged with the court following the arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
