Millerton – Betty Jean Merwin, 82, a lifelong resident of Millerton, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, CT. Mrs. Merwin was a secretary at the Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic, NY.
Born on November 2, 1932 in Pine Plains, NY she was the daughter of the late Howard Swart, Sr. and Mabel (Smith) Swart. Mrs. Merwin graduated from Millerton High School and received her Associates Degree in Business at Columbia-Greene Community College. Mrs. Merwin married Tom Merwin who predeceased her on May 15, 2011. Mrs. Merwin talked about her passions right to the end, such as horses, raising German Shepards and her work at Lime Rock Race Track.
Mrs. Merwin is survived by her two sons, Larry Merwin and his wife, Carolynn of Millerton, NY and Rodney Merwin and his wife, Jackie of Lime Rock, CT; four grandchildren, Steven Merwin and his wife Charlotte of Millerton, NY, Derek Merwin of Hudson, NY and Spencer and Kelly Merwin both of Lime Rock, CT. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Natalie Merwin. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Merwin was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Swart, Jr. and LeRoy Swart, Sr. and two sisters, Mildred and Eleanor.
