Mahopac Man Charged in Sexual Abuse of Teen

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that a Mahopac man has been arrested on charges that he sexually abused a 14-year-old girl. Mr. Daniel G. Moloney, Jr., aged 30, of 365 East Lake Boulevard, is accused of allegedly victimizing the girl–described as a family friend–in his home.

Based upon the victim’s allegations, Sheriff’s investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for Mr. Moloney’s home on October 12th. The next day, Mr. Moloney surrendered himself at the Sheriff’s Office, accompanied by his attorney. He was arrested and arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford, who set bail in the amount of $40,000.00, which was posted to secure his release.

The defendant is facing two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree. Those offenses are class B felonies, which are punishable by up to 25 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
