THE MOVIEHOUSE RECEIVES A DUTCHESS COUNTY EXECUTIVE ARTS AWARD FOR ITS SUPPORT AND PROMOTION OF THE ARTS IN THE HUDSON VALLEY!
The Moviehouse owners Robert & Carol Sadlon are among the proud recipients of a 2016 Dutchess County Executive’s Arts Award for their support and contribution to the Arts in Dutchess County and the Hudson Valley region. Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, members of Arts Mid-Hudson and civic leaders, honored this year’s recipients at a reception held at Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls last night.
This is the 30th Anniversary of the Awards, originally founded by then Dutchess County Executive Lucille Pattison in 1986 with a purpose to recognize the individuals and institutions that contribute to the area’s artistic quality.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled and honored,” said the Sadlons. “We are fully committed to making the Arts accessible to audiences in our area, and encouraging active participation in community discussion on important topics – brought to light through the cinema, performing and visual arts.”
The Moviehouse has gone through many transformations, it first showed “movies” in 1912 – when it was called the Millerton Opera House – and has been home to Vaudeville shows, community plays and one room school house graduations. The Sadlon’s commitment to historic preservation drove the restoration of the building and fueled their desire to continue to fulfill its historic purpose – to serve as a cultural hub for the community. Time has proven this mission to be attainable with the transformation from analog film into digital media.
Currently listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, The Moviehouse is moving into the future as a fully digital four screen regional cinema arts and cultural center.
The M’s mission is not just limited to showcasing first run movies, independent films and documentaries – with digital media, encrypted high speed streaming and live satellite it has become a portal to the world’s greatest venues in Theater, Opera, Ballet, Music, Lectures, Art Exhibitions- giving members of our rural community unprecedented access to world class programming. In addition, starting in 1980, the Sadlon’s have presented two-dimensional Visual Art in the Moviehouse Studio Gallery showcasing local artists in four seasonal exhibitions every year.
