Obituary, Robert R. Mahar

Port St. Lucie, FL – Robert R. Mahar, 88, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Cleveland TN, and Dover Plains, NY, died on July 24th 2016 at Treasure Coast Hospice.

Born in Cortland NY, the son of Nicolas and Florence (Williams) Mahar. Robert joined the Coast Guard Merchant Marines at 16yrs old. He enlisted in 1945 to the Army Air Corp. and then went to the Air Force until 1960 when he was honorably discharged after 15 yrs. In the service. Robert married Patricia VanEtten on March 31st 1967, she predeceased him in March 2008.

All of Robert’s siblings also predeceased him are: Charles Mahar, Margaret Frame,Richard Mahar. Robert’s sons also predeceased him are, Ronald and Rick Mahar. Surviving daughter Shelly (Gary) Grey of Stanfordville NY and 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Robert joined the Dutchess Co. Sheriff’s Office in 1960, he was a Lieutenant upon his retirement in 1985. Robert enjoyed his job, also golfing, deer hunting, and coin collecting.

Robert’s ashes were interred at Bushnell National Cemetary FL, alongside his wife. There will be a Memorial Service for Robert at Crossroads Church, 1807 Clove Road, Lagrangeville NY at 10:00 am on Oct. 10th.
