Port Chester man arrested for DWI under Leandra’s Law following Claverack traffic stop

PRESS RELEASE
Claverack, New York – On September 17, 2016, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested 30-year-old Elio E. Ortega of Port Chester, New York, for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, a Class E Felony.

Troopers stopped the Honda Civic Ortega was operating on Stevers Crossing Road for failing to maintain his lane of travel and for not signaling his intent to turn with sufficient notice.  When the arresting officer approached the vehicle, he observed an unsecured 3-year-old girl in the backseat.  Further investigation revealed that Ortega was intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop.

Ortega supplied a breath sample that revealed a .08% Blood Alcohol Content.  The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and remanded to Columbia County Jail on $500 cash bail.
