KENT – Jerry Edison White, 86, of Kent, died September 13, 2016 at New Milford Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on October 25, 1929 in Oswego, New York to the late Hazel (Robarge) and Jerry White. He graduated from Oswego High School. On April 12, 1952 he married Julia (Judy) Austin in Kent who survives at home.

In 1948, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. At the outbreak of the Korean War, he was sent to Korea, where he served his country with distinction. Following his honorable discharge in 1952, he remained a member of the active reserves for over 25 years.

Jerry worked for the State of Connecticut as a bridge inspector. Following his retirement from the State, he worked at Hunt’s Country Furniture in Wingdale, New York for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Robin Parys and Vincent of East Hartford, Connecticut; Marysue Woodard and George of Lakeland, Florida; and Glen White of Millerton, New York. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, Elyse Kaba of Manchester, Connecticut; George-Michael Woodard of Lakeland, Florida; Courtney White of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Tyler White of Alston, Massachusetts; Justin Woodard of Lakeland, Florida; Marykate McKenna of Southbury, Connecticut; and Jordan White of Millerton, New York; and three great-grandchildren, Ariana, Gianna, and Lilliana Occhino of Southbury, Connecticut.

Jerry enjoyed volunteer work especially on the Kent Veterans Memorial project as well as serving meals at the Kent Senior Center.

A memorial service will be held at the Kent Congregational Church on Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a military funeral ceremony and burial in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the church parish hall.
