Amenia man charged for 3rd OUI after hit-and-run

PITTSFIELD MA  – A Amenia man with two prior OUI convictions  was allegedly drunk behind the wheel on Saturday.  Steven Jarvis, 49 was driving along with his ex-wife and 8-year-old son in the back and a pile of car parts in the front seat when pulled over.

Jarvis, is being held in connection with a hit-and-run accident and subsequent traffic stop in South Berkshire.

Lee Police sent out a bulletin about 3:06 p.m. that a vehicle had just left the scene of a collision and the driver’s sobriety was in question.

Great Barrington Police pulled over Jarvis after noticing his vehicle matched the description given in the bulletin. His ex-wife told police he’d been in a crash and she thought he may be intoxicated.

Jarvis told police the crash in Lee was due to a sharp curve in the road and the car parts on the front passenger seat were recovered after the crash. It was not clear what Jarvis allegedly struck in Lee.

Jarvis told police he has an open OUI case in New York, which restricts his driving to school or work, but he admitted his trip Saturday did not fall into either of those categories, leading to an additional charge.

Judge Michele Ouimet-Rooke ordered him to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for Thursday.
