Cortlandt, New York – On August 21, 2016, New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested 56-year-old Martin Costello of Cortlandt, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, both Class D Felonies.

On August 21, 2016, Troopers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance that occurred on Ely Road.  An investigation revealed that the suspect was outside working on his vehicle when the victim returned to the Ely Road residence. The defendant reportedly entered the garage and grabbed a Panther Arms A-15 assault rifle.  The victim was able to enter the home and contact 911 for police assistance.

It was discovered that after the victim entered the home, the suspect discharged a round from the firearm from his garage into the backyard towards occupied homes.

Costello was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Justice Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  He is due to return to the Town of Cortlandt Court on August 22, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.
