Amenia man arrested subsequent to reported domestic dispute

Amenia, New York – On August 18, 2016, New York State Police from the Dover Plains barracks arrested 28-year-old Jamal Morgan of Amenia, New York, for Assault in the 2ndDegree, a Class D Felony, Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, all Misdemeanors.

At approximately 10:38 a.m., Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to investigate a physical domestic disturbance that occurred at a Butts Hollow Road home.  While enroute to the home, 911 updated the responding units to respond to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Amenia sub-station as the victim had arrived there for help.

While interviewing the victim, she reported that during the domestic dispute Morgan had struck her in the face several times and choked her.  She was eventually able to get away from Morgan and responded to the sheriff’s sub-station for police and medical assistance.

Troopers also learned that over the course of the last several days, Morgan had subjected the victim to physical contact causing her injury.  On Monday, August 15, 2016, Morgan is reported to have struck the victim with a piece of lumber, causing additional injuries.

The victim was treated at Sharon Hospital for her injuries and released.

Troopers returned to the residence to locate Morgan and found him at a neighbor’s home attempting to avoid police contact.

Morgan was arraigned before Hon. Justice Moore in the Town of Amenia Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
