Two men charged with drug possession following one-car crash on the Taconic State Parkway

Mount Pleasant, New York – On August 17, 2016, New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks arrested Santino J. Campanaro, age 24, of Yonkers, New York, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7thDegree, and Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, all Misdemeanors.

Troopers were dispatched to investigate a one-car property damage auto collision that occurred on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Mount Pleasant. Upon arrival, they observed a Lincoln Aviator stopped in the lane of travel.

Subsequent to conducting the crash investigation, the operator of the vehicle identified as Campanaro, was found to be impaired by drugs.   Campanaro was also in possession of heroin and a syringe at the time of the crash.

A State Police Drug Recognition Expert evaluated Campanaro to confirm that he was impaired.

A passenger in the vehicle, Justin Zambardino, 26 years old, of Wappinger, New York, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (heroin) and Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, both misdemeanors.

Both defendants were issued appearance ticket returnable to Mount Pleasant Town Court on September 8, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.
