Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Lake Carmel man on drug-related charges.

On August 2, 2016 at approximately 6:50 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley. Upon approach, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. The deputy identified the driver as Daniel R. Hutchby, 31, of 12 Rochelle Road in the Lake Carmel section of the Town of Kent. The deputy determined that Mr. Hutchby was in possession of a glass pipe containing marijuana and a hypodermic needle. The deputy further determined that Mr. Hutchby was wanted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant. The deputy arrested Mr. Hutchby and charged him with Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, a misdemeanor, and with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. The defendant was processed at the scene and turned over to the custody of the DCSO pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
