Mahopac Woman Faces Drug Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac woman on drug possession charges.

On August 3, 2016 at 9:26 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Christopher Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on Route 312 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Dawn M. Variara, 38, of 17 Olympus Drive, Mahopac was in possession of quantities of cocaine and heroin. The deputy arrested Ms. Variara and charged her with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released pending a future appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
