Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Brewster man on domestic violence charges during an incident at a Mahopac residence.

On July 31, 2016 at 12:29 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich responded to a 911 report of a dispute involving an intoxicated male subject who was damaging property inside a residence located at 92 Entrance Way, Mahopac. Upon arrival, the deputy identified the male subject as Thomas S. Gonska, 22, of 26 Shawe Valley Road, Brewster. The deputy determined that Mr. Gonska had shown up at the residence of his girlfriend while in an intoxicated state; engaged in a verbal dispute with the girlfriend and her mother; punched and damaged a door; and threw a cell phone at the girlfriend. These actions caused the two women to fear for their safety and prompted them to dial 911. The deputy arrested Mr. Gonska and charged him with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and with Menacing in the Third Degree, misdemeanors. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
