Coast Guard Proposes Anchorage Locations Along Hudson River

coast

Dear Friends,

Last month, the United States Coast Guard proposed a rule to establish ten new anchorage locations in the Hudson River from Yonkers, NY to Kingston, NY. The new anchorage grounds, which are designed to accommodate commercial vessels, would ideally increase efficiency and navigation safety along this area of the river, according to the Coast Guard.

The Hudson River is an essential part of the region’s heritage and is certainly part of what makes this county “Distinctly Dutchess.” While the proposed anchorages are not physically within the Dutchess County borders, potential environmental and community impacts could extend beyond the immediate area of Yonkers to Kingston.

I have joined with Scenic Hudson and other organizations to express concern regarding this proposal and call for public meetings where all interested individuals can express their feedback. You can see my letter to the Coast Guard here
