Estelle Lois Williams, a long-time resident of Poughquag, died at her home on Wed., June 29, 2016.  She was 93.

Born in Arabi, Georgia on Feb. 4, 1923 to William & Janie (Gibbs) McKinney, Lois was raised on a small country farm, the youngest of eight children.  In 1942, she met and married an Army soldier from Putnam County, Leonard Williams, Sr., (deceased in 1999) who was stationed in Georgia.  After living in the Carmel, NY area for many years, they moved to Poughquag, and in 1963 built the Pine Grove Motel and mobile home courts.  Lois truly enjoyed her 40+ years as a real estate agent with R. Ferris Real Estate in the Town of LaGrange.

Lois loved people, and throughout her life developed a vast number of personal friends who loved her.  Through Lois, these friends also found that they became friends with one another.  Never losing her warm Southern ways and charm, she always greeted you with a smile and hug…and a good-bye hug was mandatory.  Lois was a unique person and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She will be greatly missed and continued to be loved by those whose lives she touched.

Lois was predeceased by her siblings; her cherished grandson, Jay Williams, in 1996; and by Joseph Luongo, her beloved and best friend, in 2010.

Left to honor her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Leonard & Robin Williams, and her loving grandson & wife, Kimber & Alicia Williams, of Elliston, MT; her former daughter-in-law & husband, Karen & Cliff Schwark of Poughquag; her loving grandson & wife, Brad & Karen Williams, and her great-grandsons, Matthew & Ryan, of Pittsfield, MA.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and very special friends she considered as family.

In keeping with Lois’ wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A private burial will take place in the Beekman Cemetery at the family’s convenience.  A special way in which to honor her memory would be to lend a helping hand to loved ones when needed, as Lois did throughout her life.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.hornandthomesfuneralhome.com
