North East Community Center Revs Up Dial-A-Ride Program:
Free Ride Anywhere in Dutchess County

necc

MILLERTON, NY, July 6 — For those who are unable to drive in our area, North East Community Center’s (NECC) Dial-A-Ride program has been crucial for helping them keep medical and other important appointments, go shopping, and visit family and friends throughout Dutchess County and to Sharon, CT. As of July 1, this service now continues under NECC’s direct supervision with a new Dial-A-Ride van that will offer better service and a more flexible, on-demand schedule.

“Free door-to-door transportation and flexibility: that’s what the new and improved Dial-A-Ride is offering,” said NECC’s Executive Director Jenny Hansell. “For the elderly, people who are disabled, and others unable to drive themselves, this service is the only option in our area.”

Previously the service had fixed hours and destinations. Now residents of Amenia, Dover, Millerton, Pine Plains, Stanford and Millbrook can arrange for NECC’s Dial-A-Ride Bus to take them anywhere in Dutchess County — even to the Wassaic, Ten Mile River and Dover train stations – and to the doctor or hospital in Sharon, CT. Hours of operation areMondayFriday, 9 am – 5 pm with some flexibility for early medical appointments and occasional shopping trips on Saturday. Rides must be scheduled at least 3 days in advance. The service is free, although donations are appreciated.

Sponsored by North East Community Center in conjunction with the participating towns, the Dial-A-Ride project is funded in part by: New York State Department of Transportation, Foundation for Community Health, Dutchess County Office of the Aging, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Plymouth Hill Foundation, and Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley.

The North East Community Center (NECC) serves northeastern Dutchess County with a wide range of programs for children and youth, families and seniors. In addition to Dial-A-Ride, NECC operates the Millerton Farmers Market and other food access programs as well as the Partnership with Schools and Business jobs program for teens.
