PRESS RELEASE

SP Haverstraw BCI received a Law Enforcement Referral
from the New York State Department of Social Services Child Abuse Hotline stating
that on February 10, 2015 a 9 (nine) year old student from the Hempstead
Elementary School, which is part of the East Ramapo Central School District, fell asleep on the morning school bus run and was left unattended on the bus for about 40 minutes.

MATTHEW P. MURPHY, age 50, of West Nyack, N.Y., the school bus
driver, was arrested for the Class A Misdemeanors of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Falsifying Business Records. The Endangering the Welfare of a Child charge relates to Murphy failing to conduct a “sweep” of his school bus upon completion of his morning bus run thereby leaving the sleeping 9 year old child alone on the bus. The Falsifying Business Records 2nd degree charge relates to the driver daily report paperwork filled out by Murphy in which he indicated that he did check the entire bus before leaving after the morning bus run.

MURPHY was processed at SP Haverstraw and issued an Appearance Ticket
returnable to the Town of Ramapo Court on March 3, 2015.
