Search Warrant Yields Drugs and Cash in the Town of Bethel

 On Friday June 24, 2016 State Police executed a search warrant on Gaynor Rd in the Town of Bethel.  An investigation conducted by State Police and the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force determined that heroin was being sold from the location.  The search yielded heroin packaged for sale, seven pounds of marijuana and approximately $15,000 in cash.

Arrested were Florencio Torres, age 40 of Bethel and Joseph Steuhmer, age 45 of Monticello.  Torres was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, and Criminal Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree, all felonies, and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree, a misdemeanor.  Steuhmer was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, a misdemeanor and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.  Both men were arraigned in Sullivan County Court.  Torres was remanded to the the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set.  Steuhmer was remanded in lieu of $7500 cash bail.  At the time of the arrest, Torres was free on bail from a prior drug releated arrest in May 2016.  That case is still pending.

State Police were assisted by the FBI, Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, Police Departments from the Village of Liberty and Village of Monticello, and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Dept.
