Beekman man arrested following traffic stop

LaGrange, New York – On June 23, 2016, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested 26-year-old Timothy R. Roberts of Beekman, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony, Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, Unlawfully Possessing or Selling Noxious Material, a Class B Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a Violation.

Roberts was stopped by police on State Route 55 for failing to maintain his designated lane of travel.  Subsequent to the traffic stop, Roberts was found to possess a loaded Taurus 9MM handgun, pepper spray, and marihuana.  Roberts possessed the firearm despite being unlicensed to carry a handgun.  The defendant is also prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a court order of protection against him.  Additionally, the loaded handgun unlawfully contained 14 rounds of ammunition.

Roberts was arraigned before T/J O’Hare of the Town of LaGrange Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.  He is due to reappear in the LaGrange Court at a later date and time.
