Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrests of two young women on misdemeanor charges resulting from a traffic stop.

On June 11, 2016 at 7:47 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Oscawana Lake Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. Upon approach, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. The deputy determined that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Allie M. Farwell, 22, of 353 Main Street, Nelsonville held a suspended license. The deputy further determined that a passenger in the vehicle, identified as McKayla L. Gordineer, 19, of 1094 Oregon Road, Cortlandt Manor, New York was in possession of quantities of marijuana and a controlled substance. The deputy arrested Ms. Farwell and charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The deputy arrested Ms. Gordineer and charged her with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor; and with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. Ms. Farwell was processed at the scene and released in her own recognizance. Ms. Gordineer was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility where she was released after posting $100.00 cash bail. Both women will be required to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges at a future date.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendants could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
