A New Fairfield Ct. man was charged Tuesday with illegally manufacturing and selling assault rifles and handguns out of his home.

Connecticut State Police said they searched Michael Giannone’s home on Merlin Avenue  and found 59 complete firearms, 48 of which were legal.

The nine unregistered weapons were assault rifles, including two AK-47s and five AR-15 rifles with no serial numbers. Most of the weapons and equipment were found in Giannone’s shed and his two cars.

Police also found more than 10,000 live rounds of ammunition, 12 illegal AR-15 lower receivers without serial numbers, 65 illegal high-capacity magazines, one rifle with an illegal silencer as well as two additional silencers.

Giannone is being held on $100,000 bond.
