The Sherman Chamber Ensemble’s 2016 Signature Summer Concert Series kicks off on July 8 at St. Andrew’s Church in Kent and July 9 at the Lake Mauweehoo Club in Sherman with “A Journey Across Europe” – a program featuring pianist Margaret Kampmeier.  With works from Turina, Martinu, Ibert and Schumann.  Joining Kampmeier are Susan Rotholz, flute; Jill Levy, violin; Sarah Adams, viola; and Eliot Bailen, cello.

 

Sherman Chamber Ensemble concerts are performed Friday evenings in the intimate and acoustically excellent St. Andrew’s Church on Main Street in Kent, CT. Saturday evening performances take place in the rustic charm of the lakeside Mauweehoo Clubhouse on Leach Hollow Road in Sherman, CT. All performances start at 8 p.m. and are followed by a reception offering light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the performers.

 

“We are always pleased to welcome back the talented pianist Margaret Kampmeier, who has been a fixture of SCE concerts for years,” said SCE Artistic Director Eliot Bailen. She is a founding member of the Naumburg award-winning New Millennium Ensemble, and performs regularly with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.  She has appeared with the Kronos Quartet, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Saratoga Chamber Players, Richardson Chamber Players, Peter Schickele and many new music ensembles including Sequitur, Newband, Speculum Musicae and Musician’s Accord.  A dedicated educator, Kampmeier teaches at Princeton University and SUNY Purchase.

 

General admission is $30 and $25 for students and seniors. And new this year, children 15 are free when accompanied by an adult purchasing admission ticket.  Reservations are strongly recommended and may be made by calling 860-355-5930.

The Sherman Chamber Ensemble was founded in 1983 to bring world-class live classical music performance to Western Connecticut and nearby New York State.  Its summer chamber music series has been described in The New York Times as “about as close as it gets to the Platonic ideal of a chamber music concert.” Additional events coming later this year include Labor Day weekend bluegrass jamborees; the annual “Live at the Lake” coffeehouse; and Thanksgiving weekend classical-jazz matinee performances.
