Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Patterson man

on charges resulting from a domestic dispute.

On June 14, 2016 at 12:01 p.m., Deputy Sheriffs Christopher Irwin and Andrew Kristan responded to a residence located at 2671 Route 22 in the Town of Patterson to investigate a report of a family dispute. A female victim had reported that her boyfriend, identified as Jeffrey P. Diaz, aged 50, of that address, had subjected her to physical abuse over a 24 hour period from June 13, 2016 to the time of the report. It is alleged that Mr. Diaz threatened the victim with a pair of scissors; punched the victim in the head with a closed fist; and put his hands around the victim’s throat. The deputies arrested Mr. Diaz and charged him with Menacing in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor; and with Harassment in the Second Degree, a violation. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
