Bronx man charged with unlawfully possessing a loaded handgun

Greenburgh, New York – On June 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks arrested Saul R. Colon, 20 years old, of Bronx, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Trooper Kevin Tunney and Trooper James Holman were patrolling the Sprain Brook Parkway in the Town of Greenburgh.  At approximately 1:00 a.m., they initiated a traffic stop on a Hyundai Sonata for having an inoperable tail light.

When the Troopers approached the vehicle, they detected an odor of marihuana emanating from within the vehicle.  Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Colon, unlawfully possess a loaded unregistered revolver handgun and an expandable baton.

Colon was arraigned in the Town of Greenburgh Court by Judge Delores Scott Brathwaite and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.  His next court appearance was scheduled for June 14, 2016 at 9:30 a.m.
