Traffic stop leads to drug charge in Mamakating

At approximately 3:25pm on June 8, 2016, state police stopped a 2000 Dodge on State Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating for multiple vehilce and traffic violations.  After detecting an odor of marijuana the operator, Duane A. Norman, age 51, of Brooklyn, NY was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.  A probable cause search of Norman revealed that he had approximately 1.8 ounces of raw heroin secreted down his pants.

Norman was arrested and processed at the SP MIddletown barracks for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Driving While Intoxicated.

Norman was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail on no bail.
