and felony DWAI following traffic stop

Pleasant Valley, New York – On June 5, 2016, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie Barracks arrested Joseph M. Barry, age 53, of Pleasant Valley, New York, for Driving While Ability Impaired by the combination of drugs and alcohol, a Class D Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Troopers stopped Barry on North Avenue for an equipment violation.  Following an investigation conducted by the arresting officer, Barry was found to be impaired by drugs and alcohol.  Additionally, Barry was found to possess cocaine.

The defendant was charged with Felony DWI due to two prior DWI related convictions within the previous 10 years. He was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree when Troopers discovered that his driving privileges were revoked.

Barry was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.  He is due to reappear in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court on June 7, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
