Obituary, Ruth Eleanor Lyon

 

Poughquag – Ruth Eleanor Lyon, 82, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016 at her home in Poughquag, NY.

A long-time resident of Poughquag, Ruth was born on July 9, 1933 in Sharon, CT to Harold and Dorothy (Denton) Gloyd, and graduated from Pawling High School in 1950. In 1952, she graduated from Delhi SUNY, and married Frederick C. Lyon on September 28, 1952 in Patterson, NY. Ruth ran the coffee shop at Gloyd’s Motel in Whaley Lake for many years, and later became the postmaster in the Poughquag and LaGrange post offices.

Ruth is survived by her four daughters, Susan Sullivan of Poughquag, MaryJane Ulrich of Corinth, Joan Nelson of Wappingers, and Rose McNerney of Holmes; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Fred, who passed away April 11, 1996.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling Tuesday, June 7th 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a funeral service at the funeral home Tuesday night at 8:30 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
