State Police in Rhinebeck responded to Hyde Park car vs. train collision

Hyde Park, New York – On May 20, 2016 at approximately 9:30 a.m., the New York State Police from the Rhinebeck barracks responded to River Point Road in the Town of Hyde Park for a collision involving a 1998 Acura and an Amtrak train.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the State Police revealed that the low-riding sedan was driving parallel to the train tracks, off of the roadway.  The vehicle which was traveling along the western most track, moved to avoid a large rock that was along the track.  The Acura, operated by Sean Pesano, age 39 of LaGrange, became stuck preventing the vehicle from moving.  As the occupants of the vehicle attempted to free the vehicle from the tracks, a southbound Amtrak train was unable to avoid striking the unoccupied vehicle.  No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.  The State Police issued Pesano a traffic ticket for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.

The investigation has been turned over the Amtrak Police Department at this time.  Any further media inquiries should be directed to their agency.
