Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Town of Kent man on marijuana possession and cultivation charges following the execution of a search warrant at his residence.

In early May, a deputy sheriff assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) developed information that there was a subject in the Town of Kent who was growing marijuana inside his Tompkins Road residence. On May 10, members of the NEU served the subject with a warrant and conducted a search of the property where they recovered indoor “grow tents”, a ventilation system, “grow lights”, nineteen marijuana plants which were in bloom and approximately 5 pounds of marijuana in different stages of processing. Vincent O’Reilly, 35, was charged with Attempted Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 2nd Degree, felonies; and with Unlawfully Growing Cannabis, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned before Town of Patterson Justice Anthony Mole and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500.00 bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Kent Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face up to seven years in a New York State Correctional Facility a fine of up to $5,000.00 for each charge.
