Fatal MVA on State Route 28 in the Town of Olive

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police at Kingston is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident on SR 28 in the Town of Olive.

A grey 2000 Honda Civic traveling westbound, operated by Damein Kovacs, age 16, left the roadway and struck a utility pole on the east bound shoulder near the intersection of SR 28 and Dubois Road in the Town of Olive. Kovacs succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Kovacs eight-year-old passenger was treated at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston for minor injuries and released.

The State Police are requesting anyone with information regarding this accident to contact them at (845) 338-1702.

The State Police were assisted on the scene by the Town of Olive Fire Department, the Town of Olive First Aid, Mobil Life, Town of Olive Police Deaprtment, West Hurley Fire Department, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and NYC DEP.
