Amenia man arrested subsequent to
sexual assault investigation

At approximately 5:30 a.m., a 21-year-old female reported to the State Police that she had been sexually assaulted by a male acquaintance at a home located on State Route 22 in Amenia. It was reported that the assault occurred in the presence of a child. An investigation of the incident resulted in the apprehension and arrest of Adam T. Cottell, age 23, of Amenia.
Cottell was charged with Criminal Sexual Act in the 1st Degree and Aggravated Sexual Abuse 1stDegree, both Class B Felonies as well as one count of Endangering the Welfare of Child, Class A Misdemeanor.
Cottell was arraigned in the Town of Amenia Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
