Obituary, Joan M. Warsen

 

Wayne, NJ – Joan M. Warsen, 81, of Wayne, NJ died peacefully May 6, 2016 at Lincoln Pk. Renaissance Nursing Center after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sharon, CT on Jan.7,1935 daughter of the late Everett M. and Marie C. (Novak) Brady. Joan was a graduate of Dover Plains H.S. class of 1953 and completed the nursing program at State Univ. of NY at Plattsburg and was employed by several hospitals as an R.N. Along with raising her 2 children as a single mom in Pompton Plains (NJ) during the 70’s and 80’s, Joan was the primary caregiver to one special woman for 20 yrs. prior to her retirement in 1996 , her complete devotion and love for the patient was indicative of Joan’s selflessness and life-long commitment to helping others. Joan had many hobbies including reading , gardening and listening to classical music; she was also an avid cruciverbalist who routinely solved the toughest Sunday NY Times crossword puzzles. Her impressive vocabulary and knowledge of trivia impressed all who knew her. Most of all Joan enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her brother Thomas Brady, survivors include son Stephen Warsen and wife Virginia of Washington, NJ, daughter Carol Steed and husband Elwood of Wayne, NJ, brothers Everett “Brud” Brady and wife Linda of Dover Plains, NY, Robert J. Brady and partner Susan Anderson of Wassaic, NY and 5 grandchildren Jonathan & Kimberly Steed, Peter, Jack and Robert Warsen. Joan adored her grandchildren and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She will be sadly missed, but the impression she left on her family and friends is profound and everlasting.

Memorial contributions in her honor, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Cancer Society at Cancer.Org. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Joan’s family wishes to thank the nursing staffs at Chilton Hosp. and Lincoln Pk. Renaissance Care Center for their love, support and care shown to Joan during these past several months.
