Amenia, NY – Dennis Patrick Rooney of Amenia, NY, died on April 7, 2016 at home after a short and courageous battle with cancer with his wife, daughters, parents, siblings and extended family by his side. He was 55.
Dennis was born in Sharon, CT on April 8, 1960 to Betty (Galleher) and John Rooney. Dennis was a talented woodworker and carpenter. He was a graduate of Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT and Salisbury Boys School in Salisbury, CT.
Dennis had a heart like no other. He loved his family and friends deeply. He was thoughtful and passionate about nature and conservation, our environment, the future of our country, social injustice and human suffering around the globe. He was always true to himself and those he loved. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Genevieve, whom he married just 5 days before learning his cancer had progressed; his cherished daughters Adelaide Rooney of Norfolk, VA and Siobhan Rooney of Amenia, NY; his grandchildren, Gavin and Lily; his parents, Jack and Betty Rooney; his loving brothers and sisters, Kevin Rooney, Maureen Rooney, Carol Rooney Cummings and Michael Rooney, all of Amenia, NY; and his cherished nieces and nephews Kerry Rooney, Daire Rooney (and James Corcoran), Caitrin (and Alexander) Harney, Brendan Rooney, Kealan Rooney, John (and Charissa) Rooney, Sean Rooney and Darragh (and Joanna) Rooney; and many other loving family members and friends.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be offered on Monday, April 11th at 11:00 am at St. Bernard’s Church, 52 New Street, Sharon, CT.
