Cornwall Man Arrested for Assault in the First Degree

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police at Montgomery in conjunction with the Village of Cornwall on Hudson Police Department announce the arrest of Jonathan Rizzo, age 20, of Cornwall, NY for the charge of Assault in the First Degree, a class B Felony.

An investigation revealed that during the early morning hours of April 6, 2016, Rizzo engaged in a physical altercation with a 21 year old male acquaintance.   Rizzo repeatedly stabbed the victim in the head and torso area.  The assault took place in front of a residence on Idlewild Avenue. The victim was able to walk to the residence of another friend on Paula Court where Orange County 911 was contacted.

The injuries to the victim are currently described as non-life threatening and he is being treated at St. Luke’s in Cornwall.

Rizzo was arraigned before Town of Cornwall Court Judge Francis Navarra and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and was ordered to return on April 12, 2016 for further proceedings.
