Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Town of Southeast woman on a charge of Petit Larceny.

On March 6, 2016 at 11:55 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Benjamin Levine responded to the Hannaford Supermarket located at 1936 Route 6 in Carmel for a report of a shoplifter in custody by the loss prevention officer. The loss prevention officer had observed the woman conceal items of merchandise and exit the store without paying for them. The woman was identified as Katarzyna A. Pawlus-Szewczyk, 45, of 202 Stonewall Lane in the Town of Southeast. The deputy arrested Ms. Pawlus-Szewczyk and charged her with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released pending a March 22, 2016 appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
