Motorists Face DWI Charges

 

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the recent arrests of motorists on DWI charges.

On February 20, 2016, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Vincent Dalo stopped a motorist who committed a traffic violation on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Edvin Antonio Salazar, 27, of 84 Main Street, Brewster was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Mr. Salazar and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

On February 27, 2016 at 2:11 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Keith Blessing stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Route 6 in the Town of Southeast. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Tyler J. Murello, 63, of 15 Putnam Terrace, Brewster was intoxicated. The deputy further determined that Mr. Murello held a suspended drivers license. The deputy arrested Mr. Murello and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated and with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, misdemeanors. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendants could each face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
