Kingston Man Possessed Forged Check

PRESS RELEASE

On March 1, 2016 the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested WAYNE L. LEWIS age 30 of Kingston, NY for Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree, a Felony, and Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor.

State Police were investigating a complaint of an individual passing a forged check at a bank in the Town of Ulster. The investigation revealed that LEWIS had stolen from a family member a check which he wrote out to himself for $800.00 and signed the name of that family member to the bottom of the check. He then cashed the check at the bank in the Town of Ulster. LEWIS was charged for possessing the forged check as well as petit larceny for the dollar amount being less than $1,000.00.

LEWIS was additionally charged subsequent to a vehicle and traffic stop by New York State Troopers with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree and Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, both misdemeanors. LEWIS was found to be in possession a a quantity of heroin as well as a hypodermic needle during that traffic stop.

LEWIS was arraigned in the Town of Ulster court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,000.00 cash bail or $2,500.00 secure bond.
