Obituary, Art “Red” Adams

Art “Red” Adams left this earth on February 12, 2016 after a long illness. Red was born July 18, 1953 in Sharon, Connecticut to Ernest Adams and Anna Nicholson Adams. He grew up on farms in Dover, Millbrook, Amenia and Lagrangeville as one of a family of eight brothers and one sister. His parents and two of his brothers predeceased him.

Arthur leaves behind eight children: Crystal Odell, Edward Adams, Joseph Adams, Sabrina Adams, Arthur Adams Jr., Samantha Adams, Brandon Walker and Buddy Adams. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Art was a tree-trimmer and laborer in his early adulthood. His life also included periods of incarceration, periods of addiction and a long and disabling illness that resulted from both of these. Despite this, Art continued to look at the world with hope and happiness. It is fitting that the last words he uttered, on the arrival of his daughter Crystal to his bedside February 7th, were “I’m happy.”

A memorial service will be held at 1pm at the Valley Bible Fellowship Church, 1875 Clove Road, Lagrangeville, NY on Saturday, February 20th at 1 pm. All are welcome.

Red spent his last days at Kaplan House, a hospice care facility in Newburgh. The family would like to express its deep gratitude for the professional and loving care he received there. They would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at Vassar Brothers Medical Center who provided such excellent care during his many hospitalizations over the last two years.
