Sheriff’s Office investigates car-pedestrian crash

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a car-pedestrian crash which occurred at the intersection of Noxon Rd and Route 55 in the Town of LaGrange at approximately 9:30 pm on 2/16/16.

The crash was found by a Deputy while on patrol, and upon her arrival she observed a car stopped in the roadway with an unconscious man lying on the ground. The Deputy and a State Trooper then began administering first aid until the arrival of the LaGrange Fire Department and EMS. The male, later identified as Matthew Wells (age 39 of Poughkeepsie), was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for serious head injuries (not believed to be life-threatening at this time).

Preliminary investigation has shown that a 2004 Toyota Camry being driven by Jessica Orrego (age 27 of Poughkeepsie) was on Noxon Rd attempting to make a left turn onto Route 55 as Mr. Wells was crossing Noxon Road. Mr. Wells was then struck by the vehicle. The primary contributing factor appears to be failure to yield on the part of Mr. Wells, and at this time no charges have been filed against Ms. Orrego.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be released as it becomes available. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and the Town of LaGrange Fire Department.
