PRESS RELEASE

Kinderhook, NY  – A 65 year old man became unresponsive during a Kinderhook Village Board meeting on Wednesday evening.  Realizing it was near shift change for the New York State Troopers who share office space inside the village hall, quick thinking clerk Nicole Heeder simply knocked on their office door to report the emergency.  Trooper James Sokolowski and Trooper Michael Singleton immediately responded to render first aid.  Columbia County 911 was alerted and the Troopers began to administer first aid. The initial assessment revealed the man was not breathing and did not have a discernable pulse.  The Troopers began chest compressions and applied a nearby Automated External Defibrillator, which resulted in two shocks being administered in order to re-establish a pulse.  The patient ultimately regained consciousness and was cared for by the Troopers until the Valatie Rescue Squad and personnel from the Kinderhook Fire Department arrived.  Although the patient had no recollection of events, he is expected to make a full recovery.
