Obituary, Mary E. Monette

 

Amenia – Mary E. Monette, 92, a resident of Amenia, NY formerly of Ft. Ann, NY died on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at home in Amenia. Mrs. Monette was a retired therapy aide from the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and beloved friend to many.

Born on August 5, 1923 in Peru, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Cora (Ogden) Cook. On May 25, 1942 in Burlington, VT she married Leonard (Red) Monette who predeceased her in 1971.

Mrs. Monette was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Ft. Ann, NY and was the recipient of their Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 1999. She was also a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #364 in Woodbridge, VA. Mrs. Monette was well known for her hand made mittens. She donated them to several organizations including the Ft. Ann Central Schools, the Albany Savings Bank in Ft. Ann, NY and the Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, NY.

Mrs. Monette is survived by her eight children, Evelyn Boufford and her husband, Norman, of Northport, FL, Frederick Monette and his wife, Debbie, of Tupper Lake, NY, Mary DiPerna of North Port, FL, Carol Cayea and her husband, Norman, of Amenia, NY, James Monette and his partner, Paula, of Danbury, CT, Deborah Henry and her husband, George of Fayetteville, NC, Jane Jenkins and her husband, Michael, of Waynesboro, PA and Wayne Monette of Ogdensburg, NY. She is also survived by a brother, William Cook of Peru, NY; a sister, Barbara Reddington of Bellflower, CA; a sister-in-law, Gail Cook of Clermont, FL and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husband and four brothers, Ralph, Bob, Dale and Claude Cook; Mrs. Monette was predeceased by her son, John Monette; a grandson, Terry Bosley; a son-in-law, Warren DiPerna and her companion John DiMaggio.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY with Rev. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial will take place at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Moss Street Cemetery in Kingsbury, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Amenia Rescue Squad, P.O.
