Town of Lloyd woman arrested stealing and forging checks of Highland area resident.

PRESS RELEASE

12/15/15 – The New York State Police, Highland BCI announce the arrest of 37 year old Desiree I. Barnwell, of Highland, NY, for 6 counts of Forgery in the Second Degree (a class D felony), 2 counts of Petit Larceny and 1 count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree (both class A misdemeanors).

On December 18, 2015, the New York State Police in Highland took a report of a Highland area resident who had numerous checks stolen from his residence by an acquaintance that was later determined to be Desiree Barnwell.  Investigation found that Barnwell stole several checks and forged the name of the victim and then cashed the forged checks to withdraw funds from the victim’s bank account over the course of several days. Investigation also found that Barnwell was still in possession of the victim’s check book which was later recovered from her residence.  Barnwell was processed at SP Highland on charges of Forgery, Petit Larceny and Criminal Possesion of Stolen Property.

Barnwell was arraigned before Judge Elia in the Town of Lloyd Court and was subsequently remanded to Ulster County Jail on $5,000 cash / $5,000 bond. Barnwell is set to appear in the Town of Lloyd Court on 12/22/15 at 4pm.
