Carmel Man Faces Drug Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Carmel man on drug charges.

On November 22, 2015 at 9:44 a.m., while on patrol, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Tunney observed suspicious activity in a parked vehicle at the Highbridge Plaza on Route 22 in the Town of Southeast. Upon approach, the deputy detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. The deputy determined that one of the occupants of the vehicle, identified as David J. Dagnone, 50, of 44 Maple Hill Drive, Carmel was in possession of a quantity of marijuana and a controlled substance.

The deputy arrested Mr. Dagnone and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a misdemeanor, and with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released in his own recognizance pending a December 10, 2015 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
